How to preview a local GLB in your browser
A short guide to the optional model picker in Forest Scene Starter v0.1.
The demo opens with the included forest. Drag to orbit, scroll to zoom, and switch quality presets. You do not need a model file to try it.
Try your model
- Export a self-contained, uncompressed
.glbwith its textures embedded, up to 50 MB. - Open the free demo and select the file in the Local GLB control. This tool reads the file in the browser and does not upload the model.
- Orbit around the model. Select Restore forest to return to the original scene.
The loader centers the model and scales its largest dimension to 10 scene units. This changes the preview placement, not your original file.
Why does it say “No file chosen”?
The button is a standard browser file picker. Its label follows your browser language. “No file chosen” means you have not selected an optional model; it is not a loading error.
If a GLB fails to load
- Separate textures or buffers: re-export with embedded resources. This starter rejects external image and buffer URLs.
- Compressed resources: Draco, Meshopt and KTX2 decoding are not included. Use an uncompressed export for this demo.
- Animation: animated models may appear in a static pose. The demo does not play animations.
- Empty geometry: a model with no visible geometry cannot be framed. Check the export in your authoring application.
- Slow rendering: try Low quality. Device performance and model complexity affect frame rate.
This is a preview tool, not a model repair service or an AR viewer. Desktop rendering and a simple GLB have been checked; Safari, mobile devices and complex models remain unverified.
Run the editable source
The source includes Three.js core and addons from the same 0.184.0 release. Extract the package, serve its folder with python3 -m http.server 8080, and open http://localhost:8080. Opening index.html directly is not supported.
Reference
Three.js GLTFLoader documentation describes the loading API. Decoder and feature availability depend on the application; the starter’s supported scope is listed above.
Try the forest, then decide
The demo is free. The $12 source package includes editable code, setup instructions and a commercial project-use license.
